USGP Report from CX Magazine 11/14/09

Photo by Rick TilleryNovember 14th, 2009 (West Windsor, NJ)- National Champion, Ryan Trebon (Kona), is back to his winning ways, taking an easy victory and regaining the overall leaders jersey in the third stop of the USGP of Cyclocross in Mercer County, NJ.

On a day when mud and slick condition dominated the pre-race conversations, Trebon dominated the competition.  It was Davide Frattini (Team Fuji) who was fastest off the line though, as he and Canadian National Champion Geoff Kabush (Maxxis/Rocky Mountain) set the early pace.

Kabush was unable to hold the pace though and pre-race favorites, Trebon and Tim Johson (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) took their fight to the front.  After crashing in last month’s Derby City USGP, Trebon’s forced rest may have proved to give him the freshest legs as he held a 10 second lead over Johnson at the halfway point.  That lead would only grow in the final laps of the race as Trebon crossed the finish line with a comfortable lead over Johnson.

Behind, a crash and subsequent mechanical would drop Chris Jones (Champion Systems) down a spot to fourth and allowed Jamey Driscoll (Cannondale/Cyclocrossworld.com) who started the day in the USGP leaders jersey, to move up to third.

Davide Frattini made the most of his quick start to hold on to fifth and the top U23 finisher, Danny Summerhill (Felt-Holowesko), slotted in for sixth.
